My honest review of the Emma Luxe Cooling Mattress...
Finding the right mattress is like trying to pick something to watch on the TV. With so much choice, it becomes somewhat of a minefield. Not only that, but a lack of good quality sleep is linked to an array of health problems. So here is my personal, unbiased experience of the Emma Luxe Cooling Mattress after 112 nights of sleep on it.
Firmness and different sleeping styles:
My wife and I have tried many mattresses in search of the right one. We have even been to the shops where you lay on the mattress that senses your sleeping style and recommends a list of mattresses for you to try. My wife likes to sleep on her front whereas I sleep in every position going. In our experience of mattresses it would seem that we leaned towards those classed as medium firmness above others which in my own personal rating system, I would say that the Emma Luxe Cooling Mattress fits that description. Ultimately, is it comfortable? Yes. No matter what position I'm in I feel comfortable and ready for a good quality night's sleep. And the same for my wife who as I said, sleeps on her front.
Smell:
Upon opening the mattress, it pretty much fully expanded to its expected shape within the hour but it is advised to leave it longer before sleeping on it. What we have experienced with other mattresses is that when unboxing there always tends to be that iffy smell. They always fade after a couple days, but the Emma Luxe Cooling Mattress didn't have an iffy smell whatsoever which was a pleasant surprise. Even though the smell subsided with other ones, its still a tiny bonus.
Cooling technology:
Now what about the cooling technology...? I am quite prone to sweating in the night, much to the dismay of my wife. So I think she was a little more excited about this than I. Now don't get me wrong, it isn't like you aren't ever going to get warm, because it can also depend on other factors, e.g. outdoor temperature and whether or not you have the heating on. I did forget this and expected some sort of fan to pop out of nowhere in the night and cool me down. However, what I did notice was a substantial difference between this and the other mattresses we tried. While I will still get warm if the heating is on or it's a hot summers day, I don't find myself waking up in a sweaty mess anymore and I feel as though I can stay cosy with the duvet over me without the worry of getting too hot in the night. This is a big positive for me, and my wife.
Price:
In terms of price, the Emma Luxe Cooling Mattress does come up a little more expensive than some of their other mattresses, but considering that we spend one third of our lives asleep, I think it is a small price to pay if you find you're getting better quality sleep. What is important to note is that Emma, like many other online mattress manufacturers, love a sale price. So much so that if you pay full price, youve probably paid more than most. So always be on the lookout for their sales.
Comparison to other mattresses:
Before the Emma Luxe Cooling Mattress, we did trial a couple of the other high end mattresses and brands but both my wife and I found ourselves with either a stiff neck or too hot or one of us would be comfortable while the other wasn't. Price-wise, when compared to other mattresses of a similar quality, Emma was a reasonable price. We did also purchase the Emma Mattress Protector, which was way too expensive in my opinion considering it is just a mattress protector, however, it is easy to fit, non-invasive when sleeping on and easy to wash.
Overall, there isn't really much to complain about. I genuinely feel as though I am getting better quality sleep each night, waking up without any aches or stiffness in the body and most importantly, am not overheating at night. As with anything, I'd always recommend you do your own research, but in our experience, you can't really go wrong with the Emma Luxe Cooling Mattress regardless of your sleeping position and if you like medium firmness. Needless to say we kept this mattress and will most likely buy it again when it reaches the end of its lifespan.
